Ward pays off community center’s loan

The Ward Town board has paid off the debt early on the town’s community center.
The board voted at its last meeting to pay more than $32,000 for the remaining loan on the building built in 2010. The initial loan was slightly more than $36,000.
“When we first built it, we said we were going to pay it off with our 2 percent sales tax if we could,” said Charity Kuehl, finance officer. “We just decided to pay it off early.
“We weren’t paying much on principal. It was mostly interest,” she said.
The building is used for town board meetings, community suppers, bridal and baby showers, wedding receptions, reunions, graduation receptions and other events that the board rents it out for.
