Up next? Riverside Park Days, Looney Days

Posted

With the 4th of July, the Moody County Fair and some other big celebrations now in the rear view mirror, Moody County turns its attention to Riverside Park Days in Flandreau and Colman’s Looney Days celebrations.
Park Days, now in its 11th year, will be held August 6-7. A full line-up of events has not yet been released, but typically the festival features area talent in its array of food, art and small business vendors, the line-up of musicians it brings in, the shows it hosts, and the games being played both for fun and for true awards and bragging rights.
Flandreau City Park is located on the banks of the Big Sioux River. The fifteen acres of land that consist of the park feature ball diamonds, playgrounds, camp sites, picnic shelters, a sportsman’s club, and the Japanese Gardens, a dance pavillion constructed in 1919 that has been placed on the National Historical Preservation Society’s register. Organizers say that the “festival celebrates all there is to love about a small town in the summertime,” and they hope you’ll join them.
In Colman, Looney Days is perpetually scheduled for the second weekend in August. This year it will feature again a 5k Run, Main Street Parade, pork loin feed that benefits the local fire department, kiddie tractor pull, live music and games, and a 3-person scramble at the golf course. Watch for further updates in an upcoming issue of the Moody County Enterprise.
