Two Hawk runners head to state

IRENE – Colman-Egan’s Reese Luze and Abby Rhode qualified for state during the Region 2B Cross Country Meet on Thursday.
The top three teams and top 20 individuals advanced.
Luze crossed in 20 minutes, 45.04 seconds to place fifth.
Rhode was 12th in 22:06.02.
Alcester-Hudson won the team title with 17 points, as Howard (27) was second and Canistota (32) third. The Hawks just missed qualifying as a team, taking fourth with 33 points.

Colman-Egan’s Hailey Larson (23:11.49) took 25th to round out the team tally.
Also for the Hawks, Ava Mousel (23:53.3) was 31st and Jordan Wittrock (24:37.39) 33rd.
Gayville-Volin’s Maddy Fairley was medalist in the 5K in 19:21.78.
On the boys’ side, Colman-Egan’s Ben Zwart was 31st with a 20:35.48 clocking.
Dell Rapids St. Mary’s took the team crown with 17 points. Canistota (29) was second.
The Class B State Meet is Saturday, Oct. 20, at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls. The girls’ race begins at 1:30 p.m.
Junior varsity
Colman-Egan’s Laine Mousel prevailed in the girls’ 3K race with a time of 15:09.13.
For the boys, Jackson Wright (14:05.69) took sixth.
