Three county races on November ballot

County voters will have three races to consider in the general election in November.

Flandreau police officer Rob Neuenfeldt is challenging incumbent Sheriff Troy Wellman for his job. Both are independents. Wellman has been sheriff since 2007 and manages a staff of four full-time deputies, four part-time deputies and five dispatchers.

In District 1 for the county commission, John Schiefelbein, a Democrat, is challenging incumbent Jerry Doyle, an Independent. The district covers Flandreau. Doyle has served since 2011 and has been chairman three years.

In District 3 for the commission, Dave Ahlers, an Independent who lives in Union Township, is challenging incumbent Rick Veldkamp, a Republican from Blinsmon Township. Veldkamp has served since 2011.

Independents had until April 24 to submit petitions to have their names on the ballot.

No one challenged the incumbents for the register of deeds, auditor and District 5 commission position held by Dan Miles.
