A new deputy auditor has begun work at the Moody County courthouse after being hired earlier this month.
Jessica Thorson started as deputy auditor on April 6. She will have lived in Flandreau for two years this coming July and has been commuting to Sioux Falls for a year and a half where she worked at Healthy Systems USA.
The position became open when the previous deputy auditor, Kathy Lunday, transitioned into an open deputy treasurer position within the courthouse.
Thorson has a degree in business administration and is six classes short of an accounting degree.
“I’ve been waiting for a job, for something to come open that would fit my qualifications so that I didn’t have to make the commute,” Thorson said. “When I saw the [deputy auditor] job I quickly applied.”
She said she has enjoyed all the work so far, including payroll, voter registrations and billing.
Thorson lives in Flandreau with her fiance and three-year old twins, who she said she spends most of her time chasing around.
