They’re moving onto State

The Flandreau Cross Country team participated in the Region 2A meet last Thursday in Dell Rapids and came home with impressive hardware and first trips ever for both varsity teams to the State meet the same year. The girls won the Region title. Pictured in front are Cassidy Ketih, Lizzy Pavlis, Madie Hursey, Hannah Parsley, Libby Hursey and Reese Olinger. The boys in back took third place in Regions. They are Liam Streitz, David Allen, Gabe Hobbie, Lars Dailey, Austin Kulm and Sam Gassman. A Pep Rally will be held for the athletes Friday morning at 9 a.m. in the high school gym. The state meet is in Sioux Falls, Saturday at Yankton Trail Park

DELL RAPIDS – The Flandreau girls won the team title and the boys finished third in the Region 2A Cross Country Meet on Thursday at Rocky Run.
The top three teams and top 20 individuals qualified for the Class A State Meet, to be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.
The boys’ race is at 12:30 p.m. and the girls’ is at 2 p.m.

Girls
The Fliers put four runners in the top seven and totaled 15 points to claim the team title.
Sioux Falls Christian (28) was second and Garretson (35) third.
Madeline Hursey led Flandreau with 20:43.93 clocking, putting her in third place.

Elizabeth Hursey crossed in fourth in 20:49.26 and Hannah Parsley took fifth with a time of 20:57.15.
Reese Olinger finished seventh in 21:05.12 to complete the Fliers’ team tally.
Also for Flandreau, Elizabeth Pavlis (22:52.94) was 24th and Cassidy Keith (23:28.09) 30th.
Baltic’s Anastasia was medalist, posting a time of 20 minutes, 14.19 seconds in the 5K and the Chargers’ Micah VanKalsbeek was runner-up in 20:41.77.

Boys
Sioux Falls Christian posted 18 team points to finish on top, while West Central (43) was second and Flandreau (60) third.
The Fleirs’ Austin Kulm was 10th in 18:05.07 and teammate Gabe Hobbie (18:14.42) took 12th. Completing the Fliers’ team tally, David Allen (18:25.26) was 16th and Lars Dailey (18:42.82) 22nd.
Also for Flandreau, Liam Streitz (18:53.05) finished 24th and Samuel Gassman (19:09.65) 29th.
The Trojans’ Braden Peters led the way in the 5K, clocking in in 16:33.19. The Chargers’ Connor VanderHaar placed second with a time of 17:16.48.

Junior varsity boys
Flandreau was second with 43 team points.
The Fliers’ Lurick Dailey (15:56.65) took 10th in the 4K, Caleb Van Dyke (16:05.55) 12th, Dylan Christenson (16:12.19) 17th, Tathan Headrick (16:34.07) 24th, John Eng (17:14.45) 37th, Connor Roozen (17:19.09) 41st, Brandon Van Dyke (17:27.43) 44th and Michael Tollefson (17:43.83) 47th.
Sioux Falls Christian won the team title with 10 points. The Chargers swept the top eight spots individually, led by Nathan Koole (14:11.06).

Junior varsity girls
Flandreau ended up fourth with 66 points.
The Fliers’ Whitley Olinger (18:38.7) finished eighth in the 4K, Lily Klein (19:42.78) 15th, Gia Renteria (21:24.1) 35th, Bethany Britton (22:10.34) 44th, Annabella Olinger (22:15.37) 46th, Katherine Kulm (22:24.58) 49th, Lyla Thompson (23:51.85) 59th, Brooklyn Roozen (25:54.43) 63rd and Tiffany Taylor (26:13.36) 64th.
Sioux Falls Christian won with 11 points, while Madison (48) was second and Dell Rapids (50) third. The Chargers put eight runners in the top 10 individually, led by medalist Alexa McDonald (18:03.89).
