Teachers hold parade to everyone's delight

On Friday, Flandreau Public teachers and staff visited students with a parade in their vehicles through Flandreau, Egan and Trent so that everyone could see each other while remaining at a safe distance. About 50 cars with teachers were joined by Moody County Sheriff Troy Wellman in the county, the Moody County Ambulance and the Flandreau Fire Department, who ran lights and sirens as the teachers honked their horns and kids waived. Smiles went both directions.

Many of the vehicles had signs encouraging the children or showing school spirit including one vehicle with signs that said, “Don’t worry, be happy,” and “The world is tough but so are you.”
Even older residents without kids stepped outside to waive to the parade of cars.
First grader Payten Elverud of Trent waited outside for almost an hour to see the parade of cars with her brothers, Eathen, seventh grade, and Trent, ninth grade. She held up a pompom and watched the people she used to see each day drive passed.
“It was fun, and I got to see my teacher,” she said.
