Susan J. Wilske, 70, of Flandreau, SD passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Susan was born on March 11, 1947 in Blair, Nebraska the daughter of Hal and Betty (Show) Walker. She attended school in Tekamah, graduating from there, before going on to attain her B.S. Degree in elementary education from Sioux Falls College. Susan started her teaching career in Ainsworth, Nebraska in 1970. She was united in marriage to Larry Wilske on July 31, 1971 in Tekamah. To this union two children were born, Jeffrey and Jennifer. In 1974 Susan started teaching 2nd grade at Flandreau Public Schools. She started the “Mother’s Day Plates” and worked together on getting the gingerbread house project going. Susan was very dedicated to her career, often spending both Saturday and Sunday in her classroom. Mrs. Wilske retired in 1995. Susan was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was active in the Sunday school education. She enjoyed traveling, reading her Bible, an occasional game of bowling, and going out for a movie and supper. Above all, she loved her family and grandchildren, often spoiling the grandkids with gifts she had shopped for.

Susan is survived by her husband: Larry; her children: Jeffrey Wilske and Jennifer (Shannon) VanDyke all of Flandreau; four grandchildren: Austin, Alecia, Brandon and Caleb VanDyke; two brothers: Roger (Marilyn) Walker of Anniston, AL and Steve (Joan) Walker of Tekamah, NE; niece and nephews and her brother-in-law: Jerry Wilske.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Hal and Betty Walker; uncles, Roland Walker and Harvey (Shirley) Walker; and niece, Kimberly Walker.

Susan was a regular contributor to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, so in her honor, please consider memorials to this great cause.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with burial following in Union Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau. www.skrochfc.com
