The exceptional cold weather we’ve been experiencing produce the perfect conditions for “sun dogs.” Light from the sun refracting through ice crystals in the atmosphere make the rainbow effect we see. This photo by Bruce Porisch was captured during one of the coldest days last week. Our area received a total of 10.6 inches of fluffy, dry snow during the past 7 days. The amount of snow was nearly twice what it would have been had the temperatures been normal, or in the upper 20’s. Unfortunately it appears we will be seeing this colder than normal pattern stay in place for a while longer and along with the cold, there will be a periodic chance for snow as well.
