Score first but no win
ESTELLINE – Colman-Egan took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but was then outscored 47-7 the rest of the way to drop a grid iron contest to Estelline/Hendricks, 47-14.
Logan Voelker took it 69 yards to the house to put the Hawks up 8-0. Estelline/Hendricks then made it 8-7 on a Mattix Hausman six-yard touchdown. The Redhawks would take the lead on a 20-yard touchdown run from Hausman.
Joseph McAninch would put Estelline/Hendricks up 21-8 with a 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Wyat James then took a punt return 80 yards to the end zone. The extra point was no good and it was 27-8.
Hausman then threw a touchdown pass to Nefzger from 19 yards out to make it 34-8. The Hawks then scored their second touchdown of the night when Voelker took the ensuing kickoff 71 yards to the house. The extra point was no good and it was 34-14.
Estelline/Hendricks would score two more touchdowns before the end of the third. Hausman scored on a 70-yard run and Braxton Saathoff ran it in from one yard out. The extra point was no good on the second score, making the final 47-14.
The Redhawks had 364 yards of total offense, 253 on the ground and 111 through the air. Hausman had 108 yards on the ground to lead Estelline/Hendricks. Joseph McAninch had 52 yards on 12 carries and Saathoff had 54 yards on 12 carries.
Hausman was 8-for-15 with 111 yards. Caden Ching had 42 yards on seven catches. Joseph McAninch had one catch for 35 yards. Nefzger had two catches for 27 yards.
Colman-Egan had 177 total yards. 181 of those yards came on the ground. Voelker led the way with 159 yards on 15 carries. He completed on pass for -4 yards.
The Hawks’ defense was led by Hayden Pearson who had 10 tackles. Jackson Wright had six tackles, two for a loss. Ben Zwart had six tackles and two sacks.
Braxton Jongeling led Estelline/Hendricks with seven tackles. Matthew McAninch had an interception and Dylon Lockhurst had two sacks.
Colman-Egan is now 0-4 and hosts Wolsey-Wessington on Friday at 7 p.m.
