Roger L. Holvig, age 72 of Phoenix, AZ, died Friday, March 10, 2017 at his home with family at his side.

Roger Lloyd was born in Flandreau, SD on July 22, 1944 to Lloyd and Rose (Doyle) Holvig. After completing high school in 1962, he joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17. He attended basic training in San Antonio, TX and the majority of his enlistment was spent in Newfoundland. He often talked about his involvement in the 21 gun salute and playing taps at memorial services. He was very honored and proud to be assigned these duties.

Roger and his wife Linda were married in 1985. They blended their families and relocated to Phoenix, AZ one year later. Roger had a long career in trucking in the cargo claims area and before retiring in 2006 he was working in insurance claims adjusting. He loved tinkering on cars and guns. He was a man of many talents and strived to do them all well. Most of all, Roger loved his family and family was first with him.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; his children, Shellie (Mike) Stubsten and Chad Holvig; his step-children, Brian Straub and Brenda (Knut) Ellingsen; four grandchildren, Kayla Holvig, Eden Ellingsen, Ariel Ellingsen and Dalton Holvig; one great grandson, Owyn Reed McCoy; several aunts and uncles and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
