Pool is going to the dogs

Posted

Just when you thought life couldn’t get any more doggone fun at the pool, a new after-season event is encouraging you to bring your pup in for one last little dip.
“Dog Swim Day” is scheduled for August 19th from 4-6 p.m. at the Flandreau City Pool. The announcement was made during the last meeting of the Flandreau City Council. City Administrator Cohl Turnquist, who has been working closely with pool staff this year, said that as they are looking to bring more people into the facility over the summer, they thought this would be a fun event to add. Numerous other communities host similar events each year, often serving as fundraisers for various local organizations. Turnquist mentioned that the $5.00 per dog entrance fee would be in turn, donated to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.
The earlier timeframe for the event, Turnquist mentioned, is due to a home football game that evening.

Also heard at the most recent regular meeting of the Flandreau City Council:
In order to continue to move the construction of a new Fire Station forward, the Rural Development Administration is requiring the city to adopt a loan resolution in order to secure funding from the RDA for the project. That resolution locks in the low interest rate being offered and was approved by Council for $775,000.
In the meantime, Turnquist also mentioned that he has been working with the city’s insurance company on securing funding to replace the current Fire Hall roof, which was damaged in the Derecho storm on May 12th.
Logan Gran, who is with the DOT Transportation Alternative program, met with Turnquist and FDC members recently on the bike path project. Gran appeared to be pleased with the proposed improvement plan. More on what that plan may include and the changes it could mean for Flandreau in next week’s enterprise.
Mayor Dan Sutton also gave an update on Code Enforcement violations, stating that improvements are being made with many of the violations, but fines could soon be assessed to those who aren’t complying the Code enforcement.
