Peggy J. Hanson, 76, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died peacefully Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at her home in Sioux Falls. Over the last six years she dealt with a series of ailments.
Peggy was born June 17, 1943 in Richmond, CA to Ross “Ellis” Weigel and Lois Mae (Duncan) Weigel. The family later moved back to South Dakota. She came from a family of six kids. She often talked about the adventures they would have growing up on the farm near Flandreau, like ice skating on the crick near their farm house; going to grade school at the one room country school Fletcher; singing and performing with her sisters for school events and church events; and working on projects for 4H.
Peggy graduated from Flandreau High School in 1961 and went on to college to get her teaching degree from University of Sioux Falls. Her first teaching job was in Huron, SD at Jefferson Elementary as a 4th grade teacher. Later she moved to Sioux Falls and taught at Lowell Elementary for 28 years.  She loved teaching and enjoyed coming up with creative projects for her students.  She taught for a total of 32 years, retiring in 1996.
On June 15, 1968 she married Bob Hanson in Reno, NV at the Chapel of the Bells.  They met at school, as Bob was the principal at Jefferson Elementary in Huron.  Peggy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and going to all their special school events and was so proud of their accomplishments. Peggy enjoyed golfing, camping, traveling, playing cards, scrapbooking, reading, doing crafts & puzzles, sewing, and working with her flowers. After retirement, Peggy and Bob wintered in Florida for one year. Later they wintered for about 14 years in Mesa, Arizona.  They were married 51 years. They were fortunate to spend their 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert of Sioux Falls; son, Todd (Nancy) Schwartz of Redfield, SD; daughter, Lisa (Lee) Fischer of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Duncan Schwartz, Alec Hudson, Makaylee Fischer, and Makenzee Fischer; siblings: Jim (Robina) Weigel of Jacksonville, FL; Judy (Les) Taylor of Peoria, AZ; Jeannie Peer of Spokane, WA; Janet (Jack) Vrba of Camp Verde, AZ; and Jay Weigel of Glendale, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Linda Quintela and son-in-law, Jacques Quintela; and brother-in-law, Harlan Peer.
