Paula R. Julson, age 70, died after a short, but brave struggle with cancer on December 8, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Paula Rae was born May 6, 1948 in Sioux Falls, SD to Russell and Norma MacDonald. The family moved to Garretson, SD when Paula was five. After graduation from Garretson High School class of 1966, Paula completed her nursing degree in Mitchell, SD, becoming a licensed practical nurse. She worked the majority of her career in adult medicine retiring in 2013 after a long-career of caring for patients in South Dakota, Nebraska, and Nevada.  An avid quilter, Paula spent her retirement in Las Vegas, Nevada, stitching and fawning over her children and grandchildren. Paula is succeeded by her daughter Amy and her husband JJ; her son Andy, his wife Hollis and their children Ethan and Connor; her brothers Michael and Jay, her sister Katherine Swenning, and half siblings Larry MacDonald and Retta Wilkerson. She was preceded in death by her father Russell, mother Norma, brother Billy, and sisters Kim and Brenda Neises.
A memorial service celebrating Paula’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018, in the Zion Lutheran Church, in Garretson. Her remains will be interred in the MacDonald family plot at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.  A reception will be held following the internment at the Royal River Casino in Flandreau around 5:00 p.m.  
Paula’s family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her name, and encourages everyone to take advantage of their cancer screenings.
