A local man with a variety of interests and work experiences has been named director of the Moody County Museum.

Joshua Kellogg started in the 20-hour-a-week position Jan. 23. He most recently worked at a semi-truck repair shop and before that, worked in surveillance at the Royal River Casino for more than 10 years.

“I’ve recently become more and more interested in history,” said Kellogg, 44. “Moody County is a very history-rich area. Each day that I’m here, I learn more about Moody County history.” Much of the local history is also important on a larger scale, he said. “There’s a lot of history that is significant to South Dakota as well.”

Kellogg, who lives on an acreage northeast of Flandreau, fills the position left vacant in December by Steve Stunes, who resigned.

Bruce Porisch, Moody County Historical Society board president, said Kellogg is a willing learner and has done a varied of jobs. “He’s had a whole bunch of rich and varied experiences in his life.”

The museum board is considering changing its hours to extend later into the afternoon.

In addition to the museum position, Kellogg works as the treasurer at Second Presbyterian Church and has a firearm painting business. He also runs sled dogs as a hobby and owns 14 Huskies.
