Mural plans for Flandreau begins

Posted

A movie about community murals will be shown this month as a kickoff to start planning one for Flandreau.
“Called to Walls” will be shown at 4 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Crystal Theatre and is sponsored by Studio 52.
The planning and designing of the mural will begin this October with anticipations of painting in July 2022.

The mural project is being led by artists Reyna Hernandez and Amber Hansen, along with two local apprentices. The film documents the process of creating community based murals in the middle of the U.S. following muralist Dave Loewenstein and will give insight into the process as it relates to this project.
Everyone is invited to attend design workshops led by the lead muralists to talk about the ideas and themes that should be represented in the mural’s design. There will also be opportunities for people to help prepare the wall and paint the mural.
