Work is done pouring footings last week for the parsonage for the Big Sioux Baptist Church being built on Veterans Street. The three-bedroom home will be built with a worship area that later can be used as a garage when the congregation is able to build a free-standing church. Once the parsonage is built, largely with volunteer labor, the trailer houses that are connected together and used as the church and the pastor’s home will be taken off the property. A missionary construction team will arrive next week with plans to enclose the building for the winter so work can continue inside. The Rev. David Lillibridge plans to have the first service in the new worship area on Easter.

A missionary team of eight people will be in Flandreau next week to work on the new parsonage that will temporarily be used for services at Big Sioux Baptist Church.
The team will arrive Nov. 25 and leave Dec. 2, said the Rev. David Lillibridge.
Volunteers are needed to help provide one meal a day for the construction crew. The missionaries otherwise pay their own expenses, including food costs.
“Currently, we have two of six days covered, so there is an opportunity for some in the community to help us,” he said.
The church is building a parsonage that will double at first as a worship center in the garage area of the new building. Once Big Sioux Baptist raises additional money, it also plans to build a new church on its property on Veterans Street. The church also will remove the current trailer houses that make up the church and the pastor’s home.
