Community members in and around Moody County are welcome to anyone of the Memorial Day events listed below.
Trent will begin their services at 8:30am with the Naval Service at the bridge on the west of town. The service will then move to the Trent gym at 9am, where guest speaker Colonel Nancy Grandy, US Army will speak. The Flandreau High School Band will provide the music for the service. Following the service at the gym there will be a service at each cemetery beginning with the Salem Cemetery at 10:30am, 11am Oslo & Bethanie Cemeteries and finishing at the Nelson & Riverview Cemeteries at 11:30am. Trent’s Memorial Day Services are provided by the Hjellman-Anderson Post 122 Trent Legion
Egan’s Memorial Day Service will be provided by Frederick C. Schroeder American Legion and Auxiliary #97. Services begin at 9am at the Egan Methodist Church. Music for the service will be provided by the Colman-Egan band. The guest speaker for the service will be the Senior Chaplain at the VA Health Center in Sioux Falls, Rochelle Binion. During the service there will also be a special tribute to the Frederick C. Schroeder who the Egan’s American Legion Post is name after.
Flandreau is scheduled to have their services begin 11am at the Flandreau cemetery weather permitting, William Janklow Community Center will be the backup. Pastor Ramona Hayes of Our Saviors Luther Church will provide the opening and closing prayer for the services, with Luther Dappen being the guest speaker. The Flandreau High School band will provide the music for the services with Bridget Flannery, VFW Commander, acting as the MC for the events. The VFW does ask that anyone willing and/or interested in helping hoist the flags at the courthouse and cemetery to meet at the courthouse at 7:30am to begin with those flags and continue out to the cemetery. Any help would be appreciated as the group has gotten small.
Colman will also have an outside service at the Colman Cemetery weather permitting, the C-E High School Gym in case of rain. The service will begin at 10:30am with the Colman-Egan Band providing the music. The guest speaker will be the same as the Egan service Rochelle Binion, Senior Chaplain of the VA Health Center of Sioux Falls.
