Marlene J. Schumm

Marlene J. Schumm, age 85 of Sioux Falls, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
 Marlene Joyce was born on July 15, 1936 to Milo and Lillian (Billam) Nace in Flandreau, South Dakota. She graduated from Flandreau High School in 1954. Following graduation, Marlene continued her education and received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Dakota State University.
 On June 3, 1962, Marlene was united in marriage to Carl William Schumm in Flandreau, South Dakota. The couple were blessed with two sons and a daughter. Marlene worked as an elementary teacher for 42 years, (of these 42 years she spent 32 years in Garretson, SD), before she retired in 2000.
 Marlene was a member and the past President of Royal Neighbors of American. Following her retirement, Marlene enjoyed volunteer work at Hawthorne Elementary School and at SIGH – Sanford Health. She always liked looking at the bright side of life, and maintained a steady smile on her face and a hearty welcome to those coming to visit. Marlene’s greatest passion was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 59 years, Carl Schumm of Sioux Falls; children, Gary Schumm of Sioux Falls, Steve Schumm of Rapid City, SD and Mary A. (Steven) Goldade of Florence, SD; 5 grandchildren, David, Michael, Lindsey, Wayne and Anthony; and 5 great-grandchildren, Sophie, Christopher, Phoenix, Raven and Sedona.
 Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Milo and Lillian Nace; and a great-granddaughter, Kaleigh Schumm.
 Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Miller Southside Chapel. Funeral service will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, November 27, 2021 also at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S Minnesota Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD. Luncheon to follow the committal service at Miller Southside Chapel.
