Margaret C. Letcher, 72, of Wentworth passed away unexpectedly on Sunday March 18, 2018 of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia while wintering at their home in Mesa, AZ.

Margaret Carla Olson, daughter of Carl and Isabelle (Lee) Olson was born July 16, 1945 in Pipestone, MN. She grew up on the family farm in rural Flandreau with her seven siblings. In 1963, she graduated from Egan High School and began the Licensed Practical Nursing program at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Mitchell.

 Margaret was united in marriage with Duane Allen Letcher on August 9, 1969 at Lone Rock Lutheran Church, rural Flandreau,.  They moved to Morgantown, WV where Duane pursued his Doctoral Degree and she worked as a nurse at West Virginia University Medical Center.  In 1979, their careers moved the family to Rock Springs, WY. In 1985, Margaret graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Wyoming.  Their careers brought then to Norfolk, NE and then Sioux City, IA.

In 2002, Duane and Margaret moved closer to family to The Lakes Golf Community southeast of Madison.  Margaret continued working part time as an RN at the Golden Living Retirement Home in Madison until she retired.

Margaret was always caring in all ways as evidenced by her long nursing career, which she loved, spanning nearly six decades. They shared many good times with family and friends. She was a wonderful lefse maker and worked hard to pass down the Norwegian Traditions to her children.  She was an excellent quilt maker, enjoyed golfing, and especially enjoyed and cherished being with her family.

She is survived by her husband: Dr. Duane Letcher, Wentworth; one daughter: Kristin (Scott) Garsjo of Billings, MT and their children Carter and Kamryn; one son: Nathan (Amy) Letcher of Denver, CO and their children Colson and Kresten; three sisters: Gwen Haupert, Pipestone, MN, Charlotte (Richard) Bothwell, Wentworth, Marian Horr, Sioux Falls; one brother, Dan (Marda) Olson, Flandreau; a sister-in-law, Joanne Olson, Brookings; and a host of other relatives and friends.

 She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Lee and Jerry Olson; and one sister, Carolyn Hammer. 

A memorial visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 26, at The Lakes Golf Course Clubhouse, 19 Golf View Circle, Wentworth, SD.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 27, at Lone Rock Church, 486th Ave. and 235th St. Flandreau, SD with interment at Lone Rock Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lone Rock Lutheran Cemetery or the Lakes Golf Community Memorial Garden. www.millerfh.com
