Lois A. Braun

Lois Mae Braun, 82, of Aberdeen, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Angelhaus in Aberdeen.
Lois was born May 24, 1937 in Moody County, SD, to Clifford and Lillian (Benson) Ingemann. She grew up on a farm in Trent, SD where she attended country school and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1955. Lois attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD and graduated with her BS degree in nursing.
Lois married Dean A. Braun in Flandreau, SD on June 13, 1959. They were high school sweethearts and celebrated 47 years in marriage.
Following her college graduation and becoming a certified Registered Nurse, Lois began her nursing career as a floor nurse at the Flandreau Hospital. Lois and Dean started their family in Flandreau and in 1965 moved to Aberdeen. Lois also held positions as a Brown County Home Visitation and Medicare nurse and was hired by the South Dakota State Health Department in Pierre where she worked as a surveyor and facilities evaluator for hospitals, retirement homes, and health facilities throughout the state.
She cared deeply about the well-being of all children and families and through her work with the local and National Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Lois was an advocate for community education. Her dedication led to her serving as the PTA President for state of South Dakota. She was also highly active as a volunteer leader for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and 4-H as well as an officer in the Aberdeen Central “Big Birds” (Athletic Boosters) and Band Boosters. She spent many year on a bleacher supporting Dean in baseball.
Lois and Dean dedicated their lives to each other and to their family. They enjoyed attending their children’s, grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s music, sports, and activities. They also loved to take out their Airstream camper. She was a member of the New Doers Extension group, Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she enjoyed participating in Women’s Circle and Bible study groups.
Dean and Lois moved to Dell Rapids in 2005. Then Lois returned to Aberdeen in 2015 after being diagnosed with dementia.  She lived at Primrose Cottages for five years, and was able to continue her love of the Arts as she attended Aberdeen Community Theatre productions, Aberdeen Community Concerts, and Municipal Band Concerts.
Lois is survived by her four children: Lisa (Marty) Link, Aberdeen, SD, Linda (Jeff) Mock, Rochester, MN, Michael (Annette) Braun, Hastings, NE and Lachelle (Mike) Ashworth, Colleyville, TX; seven grandchildren:  Justin (Ricki), Jamie (Rebecca), Jerry (fiance Katie), DeAnna (Austin), Nicole, Nathan and Cayla; four great grandchildren: Mason, Rylee, Nora and Landen; and a special family friend, Linda Jark-Stoffer.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 8, 2006; her parents; sister, Evelyn Ingemann; and brother, Donald Ingemann.
A private family memorial service was held March 19.
Lois will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Oslo Cemetery, near the family farm in Trent, SD, at a later date.
