Karen Lynn Bowman, 65, of Flandreau, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at her home after battling bladder cancer for several years.
Karen was born on December 30, 1955 in Joliet, IL to George and Phyllis (Taylor) Pitsenberger. After receiving her education in Joliet, Karen married Mark Brooks on December 27, 1974, and together they had two daughters, Alicia and Cassandra. She later married Michael Bowman on January 30, 1980, and they had two sons, Michael Jr. and Jason. Michael enlisted in the US Navy, which led the family on adventures across the United States. After Michael’s retirement, the family moved to Flandreau. Karen worked several jobs over the years including for Days Inn Hotel, Royal River Casino, Alco, Winchell’s Donuts, and Pacific Fabrics. Her longest and most rewarding job was being a homemaker for her family.
Karen lived for her two granddaughters. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, reading, and spending as much time as she could with her children.
Thankful for having shared in her life are her daughters, Cassandra (Bart) Sample, Flandreau, and Alicia (Donovan) Kills-A-Hundred, Sioux Falls; sons, Michael (Jennifer) Bowman, Camarillo, CA; and Jason Bowman, Flandreau; two precious granddaughters, Mackenzie and Reagan Sample, Flandreau; siblings: Harold (Ruth) Pitsenberger and Rodney Pitsenberger, all of Rockdale, IL; Jimmy (Sue) Pitsenberger, Sheila Nicol, and Tammy Pitsenberger, all of Flandreau; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Bowman, Sr., in 2006; parents, George and Phyllis; and sister, Georgene Compton.
Funeral service was held at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with burial at a later date.
