Jon Orva “BIG O” Scofield, 76, of Flandreau, SD died Monday, May 9, 2022, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Jon was born January 6, 1946, in Flandreau, SD, to LaMonte “Snick” & MaDonna (Smith) Scofield. He attended grade school at Riverview #70 Country School, where he was crowned “Home Run King.” Jon graduated from Flandreau High School in 1964. He attended SDSU where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho. In 1969 he graduated with an Animal Science Degree. Jon served in the US Air Force from June 6, 1969, to December 6, 1972, when he returned hom to farm with his father.
Jon was a member of the 2nd Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed his coffee group with the guys. More than anything, Jon had a passion for baseball. He loved watching his nephews play ball. Jon cheered for his great-nieces and nephews when attending all their sporting activities. He also supported many Cardinal games, Flandreau Flier games, was an avid SDSU Jackrabbit fan, and never missed watching the LA Dodgers. Jon also looked forward to hunting season, driving around scouting for deer. He also liked to see and visit with all the hunters that would come to Al’s Dream. If you were lucky enough to ride with him during hunting season, he always had treats.
Jon is survived by his sister Kris (Dave) Johnson; nephews, Todd (Tina) Peper, Sanford, FL; Tab (Marcia) Peper, Flandreau; Pedro (Heidi) Johnson, Flandreau; Scott Johnson, Sioux Falls; great-nieces, Brittany Nettles, Megan (Grant) Greenfield, Kendra (Jon) Westoff, Malia Johnson (Dave Murnion); great-nephews Frank (Sharon) Nettles, Nicholas (Alek) Nettles,  Brecken and Briggs Johnson; great-great-niece Evalee; great-great-nephew Graham; brother-in-law Tom Peper; special friend Patty Clark, and his loyal dog Nell. Jon was preceded in death by his parents and hi sister Sally Peper.  
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the Second Presbyterian Church, Flandreau. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau. www.skrochfc.com
