Janice K. Mudgett, age 64 of Sioux Falls, died January 17, 2017, at Covington Care Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, SD.

Janice Kay Leeland was born March 2, 1952, in Flandreau, SD, to Kenneth and Geraldine (Fisher) Leeland. She attended Flandreau Public School and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1970. Following high school, Janice attended South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD, for one year. On August 14 1971, she married Douglas Johnson in Pipestone MN. They lived in Sioux Falls, Omaha, NE, and Valley Springs SD. Janice moved to Sioux Falls in 1979 and worked for the Sioux Falls Development Foundation as a secretary, Michaels and Burkes office as a credit manager, and Graybar Electric Company as a branch administrator until her retirement in 2014.

On April 16 1988, she married Marlin Mudgett in Sioux Falls. They have lived in Sioux Falls since their marriage, happily united for the past 28 years. Janice was an avid reader and loved to sing as well. She was a member of the All-State Band while at Flandreau High in 1969 and 1970. Janice loved her pet cats and dogs and always had a hug and an "I love you" for all her friends and family. She was also a permanently frustrated Minnesota Vikings fan.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Marlin; her daughter, Jodi (Johnson) Clark, son-in-law Michael Clark, grandsons Dylan and Tyler Clark of Marine on St. Croix, MN; special friends Gay Dempsey and Pat Stewart of Sioux Falls, Lori Bell of Tea, SD, and Karen Bierle of Fort Worth, TX.

Funeral service was held January 23, 2017, at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

Memorials may be directed to the Sioux Falls Humane Society or the Salvation Army in Sioux Falls, two of Jan's favorite charities.
