Mayor Dan Sutton presented the Flandreau Flood Historical Marker before the City Council this past week, and thanked the Moody County Historical Society for working with the US Army Corp of Engineers on securing the sign. The marker, which will be placed near the site of the old Crescent Street Bridge and Flandreau Dam, commemorates the flood of 1969.
As the old bridge continues to be removed, people continue to come by to watch its demolition and pick up pieces of the old bridge as keepsakes. Few, however, will be as large as the one that will soon move to its new home at the Moody County Historical Society and Museum.
Plans are being made to display the section of bridge that features the year it was constructed, in a unique way on the property. For now, it awaits transport to its new home.
