Hawks move to Round of 16

MITCHELL – Top-seeded Colman-Egan topped Ethan 46-42 in a Region 4B Boys’ Basketball Tournament semifinal matchup Friday night at the Corn Palace.

The Hawks overcame a 23-21 halftime deficit to beat the Rustlers. Colman-Egan moved ahead 32-31 at the end of three quarters and outscored Ethan 14-11 in the fourth.

Dalton Voelker notched a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Bodee Groos added 12 points and Keith Crisp contributed 10 before fouling out.

The Hawks shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) and the Rustlers finished at 35 percent (14-of-40). Colman-Egan went 0-for-10 from long range.

Ethan’s Abiah Plastow had a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards. Brady Hawkins chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Hawks (17-5) will compete in the Round of 16 on Tuesday playing Ethan in Watertown. A win sends them to the State B tournament.

First round game

MITCHELL – Colman-Egan outscored Elkton-Lake Benton 18-10 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 61-54 win in the quarterfinals of the Region 4B Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the Corn Palace.

Colman-Egan led 14-11 after a quarter, but the score was tied at 28-28 at halftime and Elkton-Lake Benton was up 34-33 through three.

Dalton Voelker posted a double-double with game-high totals of 22 points and 14 rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive end. He went 10-of-16 from the field and added three steals on defense.

Bodee Groos contributed 20 points, five boards and three steals.

Keith Crisp finished with 10 points and four assists. Kade Groos had four points and six rebounds.

The Elks got a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds from Matthew Nibbe, who had 31 points in a win over Mitchell Christian the night before.

Devin Sopko had 12 points and Blaine Hefti 11.

ELB went 9-of-21 from 3-point range.
