Hawk girls place fourth at State Track & Field

RAPID CITY – Seventh-grader Josie Mousel won the high jump title to help the Colman-Egan girls take fourth in the team standings and the Hawks finished in a tie for 23rd on the boys’ side during the Class B State Track and Field Meet at O’Harra Stadium. Senior Kade Groos placed in three events for the Hawk boys team.



Mousel cleared 5 feet, 3 inches to take the high jump crown. Her previous high mark of the year was 5’1”.

Deubrook Area won the team title with 84 points, while Ipswich (58.5) was second and Newell (47) third. Colman-Egan totaled 37 points in fourth.

Olivia Baumberger placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 16-3.

Reese Luze finished fifth in both the 800 (2:26.3) and 1,600 (5:37.21).

In the hurdles, Mackenzie Hemmer crossed in sixth in the 300 meters (49.72) and seventh in the 100 meters (16.29).

Elizabeth Moore, Hemmer, Mousel and Baumberger teamed to take third in the 4x100-meter relay with a 52.18-second clocking.

Moore, Hemmer, Haleigh Nicol and Baumberger ended up sixth in the 4x200 in 1:50.25.

Also competing for the Hawks, Nicol took 17th in the triple jump (31-10 1/4), Moore tied for 17th in the high jump (4-8) and Ava Mousel came in 18th in the 3,200 (14:56.71). Baumberger, Josie Mousel, Moore and Abby Rhode were 17th in the medley relay preliminaries in 4:50.3.



Kade Groos scored 12 of Colman-Egan’s 15 team points.

The senior placed third in the 400 (50.8), fourth in the 200 (22.79) and eighth in the 100 (11.46).

Ryan Voelker ended up sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a 16.8 clocking.

Dalton Voelker ended up 13th in the shot put (44-4 3/4) and Bodee Groos matched that finish in the 300-meter hurdles preliminaries (44.45). Alec Landis took 15th in the shot put (43-6) and 22nd in the discus (117-7).

Bodee Groos, Ryan Voelker, Eli Bowen and Kade Groos were 10th in the 4x200 prelims in 1:36.08. Bowen, Ryan Voelker, Nate Tolley and Bodee Groos finished 16th in the 4x400 prelims in 3:51.
