Hawk boys coming on strong in hoop play

MITCHELL – Colman-Egan beat Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 49-42 in a Region 4B boys’ basketball semifinal Friday at the Corn Palace
Ty Hiller led the way with 15 points.
Dalton Voelker added 11 points and Chase Hemmer 10.
A crowd favorite and highlight of the game was a ¾ court 3 point heave made by Voelker to put the Hawks up 13-10 after one period.  They also led 24-16 at halftime and 39-25 through three in the defeat of the Blackhawks.
For the Blackhawks, Noah Kickson dropped in 25 points. Cayden Slykhuis tallied 10.
“We got off to a slow start, but were able to battle back by playing good defense and taking high percentage shots on offense,” said Coach Scott Hemmer.

“We still have a few things we need to clean up on both ends of the floor, but overall played a good game against a bigger team.  Once again winning the rebound battle and limiting points off turnovers proved beneficial to our win. “

DELL RAPIDS – Sixth-seeded Colman-Egan dropped third-seeded St. Mary 67-49 in a Region 4B boys’ basketball quarterfinal Tuesday night.
Dalton Voelker posted yet another double-double with 21 points and an incredible 21 rebounds, helping the Hawks to a 43-19 advantage on the glass. He went 6-of-9 from the field and 9-of-15 at the foul line and also dished out five assists.
“It was a great atmosphere for a postseason game,” said CE coach Scott Hemmer. “I thought we were able to move the ball really well and get good shots. We kept our turnovers to a minimum and also had a huge rebounding edge.
“I was proud of the effort we put out and hope to keep the momentum going into the next game.”
Colman-Egan was up 15-11 after a quarter, 32-21 at halftime and 48-35 through three.
Nate Tolley added 16 points, six boards and four dimes.
Chase Hemmer chipped in with 13 markers and Wyatt bush had 10 in 18 1/2 minutes off the bench.
Cardinal junior Connor Libis put in a game-high 24 points. He was 9-of-24 from the floor.
DRSM beat CE 57-45 in the season-opener for both teams Dec. 13 in Colman.

Colman-Egan was to face top seeded DeSmet in the SoDak 16 on Tuesday, March 10 in Mitchell. Results were not available by Enterprise press deadline and will be in the March 18 issue of the Moody County Enterprise.
