Hawk cross country
Colman-Egan’s girls’ cross country team ran just fast enough to get by Arlington in the team points of the Region 2B Cross Country meet held Wednesday, October 14 at DeSmet.
The Hawk girls nudged the Cardinals by one, 24 to 25 in a tight race for the team title. DeSmet came in third with 28 points.
Top runner for the Hawks was Reese Luze who took second place (21:44.46) behind region champion Madison Fairley of Gayville-Volin (20:50.08).
Next Hawk runner across the finish line was Luze’s sister, Presley who ran to an 11th place finish, 22:51.83.
Following her was Brynlee Landis with a time of 23:00.09 for 13th place and then Abby Rhode taking the last state bound spot with 20th place and a time of 23:26.70.
Since the Hawks won the title they can take the team which means Elaina Rhode will be the fifth runner to attend the State B meet this weekend in Rapid City at the Hart Ranch Camping Resort.
Flier cross country
Sioux Falls Christian took the girls’ team title and had the second through fifth place runners at the Region 2A Cross Country meet, but Flandreau’s seventh grader Faith Wiese took the championship honors at the meet held in Sioux Falls.
The Flier girls combined for 32 points behind the first place Chargers with 14 team points.
Wiese’s time was 19:31.87 and Libby Hursey, who came in 8th hit the chute at 21:12.57 in the 5000 meter race.
Her sister Josie Hamilton was 12th (21:32.27) followed by Lily Klein in 14th (21:40.69).
