The annual Freedom Hunt was held last Saturday at Sioux River Wildlife at the Tad and Kathy Jacobs farm located north of Flandreau. The hunt, held for hunters with special needs, saw a record 22 hunters register for the free pheasant hunt. Around 25-30 volunteers were on hand to make sure the event went off without a hitch. A total of 62 pheasants were harvested during the day long program. Hunters and helpers are treated to a noon lunch donated by Feeding Friendz. Door prizes were drawn for with most participants having their names pulled from the drawing.
The weather was perfect for the hunt and Rob Thompson, head guide for Sioux River Wildlife said, “We pretty much all agree that his was the best Freedom Hunt to this date; perfect weather and a large number of enthusiastic hunters made it a great day.”
The hunt was sponsored by South Dakota Freedom Hunts and funded through generous donations from many area businesses and individuals.
