Flute, Hursey lead girls to state cross country meet

VOLGA – Flandreau’s Sinona Flute won medalist honors at Wednesday’s Region 2A Cross Country Meet Meadow Creek Golf Course as Sioux Falls Christian won the girls’ team title and West Central’s Derick Peters led the Trojans to the boys’ crown.

Flute covered the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 4.59 seconds; Madeline Hursey finished fourth in 20:32.71 for fourth place; Elizabeth Hursey placed 13th in 21:27.45; and Hannah Parsley crossed in 21:34.64 for 16th as the Fliers notched 29 team points for second to the Chargers’ total of 17.

Sioux Valley placed seventh with 146 points, led by Allison Jacobson’s 32nd-place finish.

Peters won in 15:33.87 as West Central totaled 15 points. Sioux Valley placed third with 61 points as Flandreau ended up in fifth place with 98 points.

Max Nielson was 10th for the Cossacks in 17:42.25 while Kelton Vincent placed 12th in 17:43.73. Evan Rathbun (18:40.15) and Christian

Rosas-Landin (18:44.44) finished 20th and 21st, respectively.

David Allen led the Fliers with a 16th-place mark of 18:26.95 as Austin Kulm crossed in 18:30.32 for 19th to also qualify for the state meet as an individual.

The top three teams and 20 individuals from each region meet will advance to the state meet at Hart Ranch in Rapid City next week.
