Fliers have good showing at Region 2A

HAYTI – The Flandreau girls took third and the boys were fifth at the Region 2A Track and Field Meet on Thursday.
The top two finishers in each event and those achieving in-season qualifying standards advanced to the Class A State Track and Field Meet, to be held Friday, May 24, at Tea Area High School and Saturday, May 25, at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.

Girls
Senior Ashtyn Bertram had a big day, winning the 100-meter dash in 12.7 seconds and the 200 in 26.2.
She also anchored the Fliers’ victorious 4x100- and 4x200-meter relay teams, which finished in times of 51.8 and 1:49.1, respectively. Isabella Pavlis, Hannah Parsley and Cassidy Keith ran the first three legs in both relays.

Madie Hursey placed first in the 1,600 with a time of 5:36.2.
Libby Hursey was runner-up in the 800 in 2:33.1.
Madie Hursey, Maria Parsley, Hannah Parsley and Libby Hursey were second in the 4x800 in 10:15.3. Pavlis, Keith, Libby Hursey and Hannah Parsley matched that finish in the 4x400 with a 4:24.2 clocking.
Flandreau totaled 117 team points. Hamlin (165) won the title and Madison (145) was second.

Boys
Gabe Hobbie, Austin Kulm, Chris Boetger and David Allen placed first in the 4x800 relay in 8:48.2.
Tathan Headrick, Tristan Bietz, Allen and Hobbie won the medley relay with a time of 3:57.
Kulm ended up second in the 3,200 (11:04.1).
Flandreau totaled 51 team points. Madison (173) was first.
