MADISON – Rapid City Stevens rolled to the team title at the Madison Invitational on Saturday with 246 points, while Harrisburg (198) was second.

Flandreau took only a handful of wrestlers to the event. Michael Witte took fifth at 145 pounds, a deep weight class with many of the top wrestlers in class A at that weight, while Preston Keith (160) and Brendan Ten Eyck (152) both went 0-2.

“All three got some great matches that will only make them better towards the end of the year,” said coach Travis Ahrens.

Witte moved into the semifinals after pinning Chamberlain’s Hunter Foltz in 39 seconds and then toppling Wagner’s Preston Negved. He fell 3-0 to Stevens’ Cooper Voorhees in the semis and lost 6-4 in a sudden victory against Spearfish’s Matthew Ackerman. Witte blanked Harrisburg’s Max Johnson 7-0 to place fifth.

VOLGA - The rest of the Flier squad went to Sioux Valley where Hunter Witte (106) took second, Tanner Christenson (120) and Tathan Headrick (126) both took fourth. Austin Kulm, Owen Peters and Toby Taylor also wrestled tough in their matches as they gain experience.
