Fliers 10th in Conference Tourney

FLANDREAU – Howard tallied 161 points to edge McCook Central Montrose’s 157-point total to capture the Big East/Lake Central Conference team title on Saturday in Flandreau.
Kingsbury Country scored 86 points to claim eighth place while the host Fliers were 10th with 37 points, followed by Sioux Valley in 11th with 25 points.
Braden Peters placed third at 285 pounds as he won by fall in 3:36 over Deuel’s Gabe VanWormer in the third-place match. After a first-round bye, he won by fall in 1:11 over BAH’s Jace Wurth; and then, dropped a 3-1 decision to Garretson’s Dakota Johnson. In the wrestlebacks, he won by fall in 14 seconds over Parker’s Geoff Dunkelberger to advance to the third-place match.
Chase Reed finished fourth at 220, losing by fall in 3:34 to MCM’s Cole Grasma in the third-place match. After a first-round bye, he won by fall in 2:52 over KC’s Connor Hoffman, but lost by fall to Jesse Hastings of MVPCS in 30 seconds. Reed won by fall in 2:34 over Sioux Valley’s RJ Perry in the wrestlebacks to move into the third-place match.
At 106, Brayden Wiese went 0-2, losing by fall in 14 seconds to EPJ’s Lucas Hueser in the opening match; picking up a bye in the consolation round; and then, losing by fall in 1:15 to Tanner Preheim of Parker.
At 113, Hunter Witte drew a first-round bye, and then, dropped a 10-5 decision to Parker’s Logan Buseman. In the consolation bracket, Witte drew a bye; and then, won by fall in 4:15 over Sioux Valley’s Alex Stein. He lost by a 17-0 technical fall in 4:38 to Griffin Tobin of MVPCS to be eliminated.
At 120, Tanner Christenson lost by fall in 3:24 to Kingsbury County’s Matthew Steffensen before receiving a bye in the wrestlebacks. He won a 9-7 decision over Garretson’s Hunter Abraham, but then, lost by fall in 1 minutes to EPJ’s Joseph Weis.
At 126, Caleb Petsenberger drew a first-round bye and then, lost by fall in 1:39 to Howard’s Riley Genzlinger. In the wrestlebacks, Pitsenberger lost by fall in 3:37 to MCM’s Reid Montreal to be eliminated.
At 138, Kolby Peters dropped a 12-9 decision to KC’s Nolan Coughlin; received a bye in the wrestlebacks; and then, lost an 11-1 major decision to Parker Eldeen of Parker.
