Fliers place six at Tri-Valley wrestling

COLTON – Flandreau’s Chase Reed won the heavyweight class and the Fliers placed eighth as a team at the Tri-Valley Invitational on Saturday in Colton.
The Fliers scored 105 points as a team.
Winner scored 239.5 points to win the team title, with Canton in second with 227 and Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes scored 199 to finish third.
Reed earned the title at 285 pounds with three wins and a fourth by forfeit. After an opening-round win by fall over Klein of MF, Reed moved into the semifinals with a forfeit win. He advanced into the finals with an 8-3 win against Shelbourn of Winner, then defeated Canton’s Traun Cook for the title by 2-1 decision.
At 152 pounds, Tathan Headrick finished second. He posted a pair of wins by fall in his first three matches, over Bunda of Marion-Freeman, and Smith of BH/S/A and then also a forfeit win. He was then was pinned late in the third period (5:27) of the championship match by Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes’ Lucas Lenz to finish runner-up.
At 120 pounds, Brayden Wiese placed fourth, finishing with a 3-2 record. He won his first two matches with quick pins over Rand of Parker and Bastemeyer of Sioux Falls Jefferson. He lost late in the third period of his semi-final match to Tjeerdsma of Bon Home/Scotland/Avon and finished his tournament with an 11-2 major decision loss to Winner’s Karson Keiser.
Caleb Dietrich finished sixth at 182 pounds. He opened with two wins, pinning Mendoza of Tr-Valley and 10-5 decision over Patten of Parker, but dropped his final three matches including the fifth-place match by fall to Miller/Highmore-Harrold’s Tate Hoffman.
At 195 pounds, Owen Peters picked up a sixth-place showing. After moving on with a first-round forfeit win, Peters dropped into the consolation bracket after being pinned in the quarterfinals. Peters then won his next two matches by pin, Nehlich of TV and Welch of Garretson, before being defeated in the consolation semifinals. He finished with a loss to Parker’s Zaul Centeno by fall in the fifth and sixth place finals..
The Fliers’ Julie Pitsenberger also picked up a third-place finish in the girls’ 126-pound division.

Other Fliers on the mat Saturday were Teague Bergjord, 0-2; Dylan Christenson, 2-2; Justin Klein, 1-2; Karter Headrick 2-2 and Caleb Pitsenberger 1-2.
Flandreau’s next action is Thursday at Freeman, a quadrangular with the host Marion/Freeman as well as Beresford/Alcester-Hudson and Mount Vernon/Plankington/Corsica-Stickney.
Saturday, they’ll be in Arlington at the Kingsbury County Invitational. Action starts at 9:30 a.m.

Fliers fall in three duals

INWOOD, Iowa – Flandreau went 0-3 as part of a quad at West Lyon, Iowa, losing to the host Wildcats, Parker, and Parkston.

Parker 64, Flandreau 18
Parker won five of the seven contested matches and picked up six forfeit wins in their 64-18 defeat of Flandreau.
Brayden Wiese earned a win at 120 pounds with a pin in 5:45, as did Justin Klein at 132 as he pinned his opponent in 3:36.

Flandreau’s other win came at 170 pounds where Caleb Pitsenberger picked up a forfeit win.

Parkston 49, Flandreau 24
The Fliers again won two matches and picked up two more wins by forfeit.
At 160 pounds, Karter Headrick earned a win by fall in 1:39, then at 182 pounds Caleb Dietrich needed just one second more than Headrick to record another win by fall.
Chase Reed (220 pounds) and Thomas Loehr (285 pounds) won by forfeit.

West Lyon 60, Flandreau 21
Reed picked up the only contested win of the dual for the Fliers, winning an 8-4 decision at 220 pounds.
The Fliers picked up three wins by forfeit.
