Flier girls open golf year winning at Garretson

GARRETSON – The Flandreau girls’ golf team opened the season by winning the team title at the Blue Dragon Early Bird on Tuesday at River Ridge.

The Fliers, who put four players in the top eight, shot 153.

Dell Rapids, led by individual medalist Kaitlyn Greenhoff, was second at 158. Garretson (165), Sioux Valley (179) and Chester Area (195) were third through fifth, respectively.

Flandreau’s Grace Johanson was second on the individual leaderboard with a 49. Teammate Destiny Nelson took third at 50.

The Quarriers’ Rose Habager (51) ended up fourth and the Cossacks’ Montana Anderson (52) placed fifth.

Rounding out the Fliers’ team score, Keva Burshiem shot 54 to take seventh. Alaina Cloud (56) tied for eighth.

Garretson won the boys’ title with a 129 total. Chester (138) took second, and Flandreau and Dell Rapids St. Mary tied for third at 158.

The Blue Dragons’ Isaiah Mader carded a 40 to earn medalist honors. Chester’s Zach Brown was runner-up with a 42. Garretson’s Jacob Liester took third at 43.

The Fliers’ Dawson Blum finished fourth at 43 and Devon Burggraff ended up seventh following a round of 49. Kyle Lewis and Brayden Sayler both fired 66.
