Flier girls 7th at State

RAPID CITY – The Flandreau girls took seventh with 117 team points at the Class A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Hart Ranch.

Sinona Flute led the way with a time of 19 minutes, 49.35 seconds, putting her in eighth place.

Madeline Hursey was 28th with a 20:50.84 clocking and Elizabeth Hursey finished 37th in 21:02.28.

Kathryn Parsley rounded out the team score with an 82nd-place showing in 22:22.02.

Also for the Fliers, Hannah Parsley (22:25.62) was 83rd and Reese Olinger (22:33.5) 90th.

Hill City won the team title with 33 team points, while Custer (64) was second and St. Thomas More (67) third. Sioux Falls Christian (106), Winner Area (109) and Beresford (115) were fourth through sixth, respectively.

Beresford’s Cait Savey (18:35.75) was the medalist in the 5K, and the HC Rangers’ Karlee Simons (18:45.68) placed second.

On the boys’ side, Flandreau’s Austin Kulm (19:11.79) took 95th and David Allen (19:41.93) 107th.

In the Class B State Cross Country Meet, also contested Saturday at Hart Ranch, Colman-Egan’s Ava Mousel took 93rd in the girls’ 5K in 24:03.68.

Newell (22), Ipswich (38) and Deubrook Area (42) finished 1-2-3 in the team standings.

The Irrigators’ Delaney Leber (19:52.33) was the individual champ and the Dolphins’ Josie Olsen (19:55.83) was second.

For the boys, Bison’s Daniel’s Burkhalter (15:41.27) won his third consecutive title. Ipswich (29) edged Freeman Academy/Marion (32) for the team crown.
