VOLGA – The Flandreau boys brought home the Lake Central Conference Track & Field title on Tuesday, May 10.
It was the first LCC win for a Flier team in nine seasons.
The Fliers had 161 points to win the boys’ side. Clark/Willow Lake came in second (130) and Deuel came in third (105). De Smet finished in fourth (96) and Sioux Valley came in fifth (95).
Sioux Valley won the girls side of the meet with 179 points and the Flandreau girls came in second with 151. Castlewood finished in third with 92, De Smet came in fourth (76.5) and Hamlin rounded out the top-five (74).
Girls
The Fliers had four first place finishers. Faith Wiese won both the 800 meter run and the 1,600 meter run. She had a time of 2:32.47 in the 800 and a time of 5:24.63 in the 1,600.
Flandreau won two relays. Kiley Westberry, Lily Klein, Maria Parsley and Wiese won the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:09.35. Ayashi Artoz, Ella Hoffman, Sadie Iott and Josie Hamilton won the sprint medley relay with a time of 4:45.36.
Bella Pavlis came in second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.43. Her sister, Lizzie, came in fifth (13.49). Claire Sheppard came in second in the 200 meter dash (27.78).
Klein came in fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:41.73. Westberry finished in fourth in the 1,600 meter run (5:47.81).
Lizzie Pavlis, Bella Pavlis, Sheppard and Hoffman came in second in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:53.20. Bella Pavlis, Klein, Sheppard and Parsley came in third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:28.76.
Lizzie Pavlis came in second in the long triple jump with a jump of 34 feet and 4.50 inches. Jada Stone came in fourth in the discus with a throw of 89 feet and eight inches.
Katherine Klum and Elodie Amdahl came in fourth (6-00.00) and fifth (6-00.00), respectively, in the pole vault. Hoffman came in fifth in the long jump (14-07.50).
Boys
The Fliers had four first place finishers on the boys’ side. Alex Anderson won both the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. He finished the 100 meter race in 11.18 seconds and completed the 200 in 23.07.
Liam Streitz won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 44.93 seconds. Mike Tollefson won the high jump with a jump of five feet-10 inches.
Flandreau came in second in two relay races. Tanner Reed, Austin Kulm, Davien Schipper and Brenton Westberry came in second in the 4x800 meter relay after finishing in 8:47.25. Tyce Ryan Zyann Artoz, Paul Parsley and Lurick Dailey came in second in the sprint medley relay (4:09.47).
Westberry came in second in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:53.57. Matthew Gassman came in third in the 3,200 meter run (11:23.47) and Ethan Hoffman finished in third in the 100 meter dash (11.26).
Lanz Dailey came in second in the pole vault (8-6.00) and Kulm finished in third (8-00.00). Paul Parsley came in third in the triple jump (36-08.50).
The Fliers were to be in the Big East Conference meet Monday, a rescheduled date from May 12. Thursday, the season begins to wind down at the Region 2A meet in Elkton.
