Flier boys end season at 8-13

FLANDREAU – Flandreau couldn’t handle the second half comeback from the Elkton/Lake Benton Elks in the Class A Region 2 tournament, Monday, Feb. 27.
The Fliers lost 59-54 to close out their season at 8-13.
“Two pretty evenly matched teams,” said Coach Brendan Sheppard.
“Elkton made a couple more three point shots (8 to our 6). We also committed 13 turnovers to Elkton’s 6.  Those two stats were the difference in the game.”
After a 12-12 deadlock in the first quarter, the Fliers took a 28-24 lead into halftime. But the Elks out-scored Flandreau 15-7 in the third quarter to take a 39-35 lead and closed it out, edging Flandreau 20-19 in the fourth quarter to set up a matchup with top-seeded Sioux Valley on Tuesday night.
Tanner Drietz led ELB with 19 points and Carson Griffith had 11 points for the Elks. Paul Parsley led Flandreau with 19 points and Luke Sheppard had 15 points.
Jon Schrader also put in seven points.
Parsley also had five assists and Sheppard made four with six rebounds.
The Elks improved to 7-14 on the season with the win while the Fliers finished the season at 8-13. ELB went on to lose to top seeded Sioux Valley the following evening.
“Overall, we had a nice season with an extremely young roster.  As we continue to mature the game should continue to slow down and become easier for our boys.”
