Flandreau rodeo planned for second year

Flandreau Rodeo Days is planned for a second year after organizers said the first year was a success.
The event is June 7-8 with afternoon events, a new children’s activity area and the rodeos beginning each day at 6 p.m. A concert will follow each rodeo and will be held inside at the Royal River Casino and Hotel.
Last year, more than 500 people watched each day and 200 contestants participated, said Tim Morrissey, senior operations director of the casino. The rodeos are across Veterans Street to the west of the casino.

Out of seven new rodeos in the state, Flandreau’s was voted the best, he said.
Morrissey said organizers are hoping for more vendors by offering a lower booth price this year.
The new children’s play area will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, and slack events will start at 11 a.m.
Cost to attend is $10 for early bird admission with a ticket purchase at the Royal River gift shop or online at royalrivercasino.com. Gate admission is $15 and free for kids 10 and under.
The rodeos are sanctioned with the South Dakota Rodeo Association and the Minnesota Rodeo Association.
