Flandreau Building Center preparing for its opening

Posted

Flandreau Building Center will open Monday under new ownership and a remodel that includes a new showroom, front counter and computers.
The business at 110 S. Wind St., the former J&K Building Center, closed last month so the new inventory could be moved in and changes could be made. It was purchased by Tyler Lumber after long-time owners Jim and Kim Amdahl sold it after managing and owning it for 36 years.
The showroom, about the size of a triple garage features siding, windows, shingles, stone, millwork, a shower, stool, vanity, kitchen cabinets and Larson doors. “That will help people in a lot of ways in the fact that they can see the product and feel the product that they are actually purchasing,” said Lonnie Lambertus Sr., general manager of Tyler Lumber.
Lambertus has named Shawn Bingham, who has worked at Tyler Lumber for four years, as the store manager. The remainder of the three full-time and one part-time employees will be the same as with the previous store, including Jeanette Hale, George Hale and Tom Toates.

A store grand opening will be from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 10 with coffee and cookies and vendors on hand to answer questions. The event will continue through the month until Dec. 28 when there will be a grand prize drawing.
Store hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
The store will sell Do-It Best brand products, and Lambertus said his goal is to show residents that prices are very comparable to stores in which they would have to drive out of town for shopping.
“We’re going to offer the products they want. We’re going to be very, very price competitive,” he said. The store also will focus on service. “When somebody comes in here and asks a question, you’re going to get the answer right away.”
The store will continue serving contractors and do-it-yourselfers, along with offering a full line of products, including housewares, hardware, electrical, plumbing, tools, lawn and garden, paint and lumber. They will sell ice melt and grass seed, too.
“I want people to realize we are a full-service lumberyard and hardware store here,” he said.
