BROOKINGS – The members from the South Dakota Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapters gather with fellow members from across South Dakota for the South Dakota FCCLA State Leadership Conference.
Members, advisers and guests attended the FCCLA Leadership Conference at the Ramkota Hotel and Convention Center in Sioux Falls, from April 18-20.
The members participated in workshops, STAR events, social activities, general sessions and more.
Members were inspired by keynote speaker V.J. Smith. Multiple workshops were hosted by state leadership teams and outside guests. The 2020-2021 officers concluded the meeting by handing off their leadership positions to the next line of state officers.
During the meeting, awards were distributed to members. Chapters also received recognition for their community efforts and their advancements as leaders.
This year Brookings FCCLA had four members run for a state leadership team, and all four were given a position on the team. Members include Emily Hua (Brookings Freshman Chapter) and Cade Christainson (Brookings Freshman Chapter) on the National Outreach Team, and Owen Burns (Brookings Freshman Chapter) and Jennavieve York (Brookings Senior Chapter). STAR Event results were also announced.
The Brookings Freshman and Senior Chapter results include: one Silver Award winner, four Gold Award winners, two Top Superior Award winners and a national qualifying STAR Event: Emily Hua and Camryn Lounsberry in Sustainability Challenge.
FCCLA stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and was first established in 1945. FCCLA is the only youth-led organization with the family as its central focus.
This career-technical student organization prepares youth to assume adult roles in society as wage earners, community leaders, and caring family members by giving them important life skills needed to thrive in their families, careers and communities. Members learn how to be active in community leaders, caring family members, and prepare for life beyond high school.
