Elaine Timm, age 91, of Sioux Falls died Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Morningside Manor in Alcester.

Elaine Timm, daughter of William and Lola (Whaley) Atkins was born January 3, 1926 in Flandreau , SD. She graduated from Flandreau High School in 1943. She was united in marriage to Herman Timm on May 23, 1944 in Garretson. They lived in Gardena, CA from 1958 until 1964 where she took classes at El Camino College. She had spent time in Canton, Clark, Madison, and North Dakota for Herman’s work. When the children were growing up she became a homemaker. She has lived in Sioux Falls for the last 40 years. Elaine worked at Montgomery Wards for a time and also was part time at Red Owl. She worked for Sears as a customer service operator for 17 years, retiring in 1991.

Her favorite hobby was giving back to the community. She spent countless hours volunteering at both Avera and Sanford hospitals. She was also active at Luther Manor, Bethany RSVP Program where she was on the advisory council, and many other nonprofit organizations. She was very involved at Hilltop United Methodist Church where she was a long time member. She was a past member of the church memorial committee, worked as a church teller. Other groups she belonged to in town were: American Business Women, AARP, and the Center for Active Generations.

She is survived by her children, Jack (Ella) of Sioux Falls, Gloria (Steve) Wehling of Sioux Falls, and Randy of Independence, MO; 8 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Herman in 1977; sisters, Marjorie Zabel, Barbara Volpe, Judy Jensen, and Mary Larson; and a brother Richard Atkins.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Hilltop United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls. Interment will take place in the Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
