Early registration encouraged for Vacation Bible School

Each summer, volunteers from nearly all of the local churches team up to provide a unique faith-based learning experience for young children in the Flandreau area community. This year, the community-wide Vacation Bible School will be held August 1-4 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
This year’s theme is “Food Truck Party” and it is based on Matthew 6:11: “Give us this day our daily bread”.
The campers will learn about 5 specific stories from the Bible that relate to this theme. There will also be a coin drive during the event to raise money for the Breadbasket which is our local food pantry.
Interested campers AND volunteers should register at https://flandreau.mycokesburyvbs.com/. T-shirts are ordered for the campers ahead of camp so the earlier children are registered, the more likely they are to get a shirt.

Preschool-aged children are able to attend between 9am-12pm. Children in 1st - 6th grades will have a longer day, between 9am-3pm and will need to bring a sack lunch. If unable to bring their own, one can be provided as long as organizers know in advance.
There will also be a field trip to the Breadbasket and performances at Edgewood Greenleaf and the Riverview Healthcare Center.
“It is extremely important that we reach out to the youth of our community and encourage them, as young followers of Jesus, to grow in their faith,” said Malerie Yeaton, one of VBS’s organizers.
“They have so much fun and they can bond before going back to school.”
The camp is free and open to all but it wouldn’t happen without community support to make the week possible. Anyone interested in contributing to the campers experience can drop of donations at First National Bank for the “Flandreau Community VBS” fund or email flandreaucommunityvbs@gmail.com. Donation buckets can also be found at local businesses and churches.
Families can see what the kids learned at a program on Thursday, August 4, at 6:00 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. A “Food Truck Party” will follow including a meal (pulled pork sandwiches and hot dogs), ice cream, and activities for all ages.
