Ellen Jean Anderson, 90, of Flandreau, SD passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018.
Ellen Jean Hoel was born November 30, 1927 at Forbes, ND to Arnold and Gertrude (Wright) Hoel. After high school graduation from Lake Benton, MN, Jean continued her education at Glenwood Hills Psychiatric School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN. Jean married Russell Anderson, her best friend and dancing partner of 60 years, on January 19, 1947 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Flandreau. After a honeymoon in New Orleans, they lived on the Anderson family farm west of Flandreau. Jean worked in medical and dental offices in Flandreau. She retired after a long career with Dr. Peter Stahl D.C. Jean was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and participated in WELCA. Jean belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star (60 years), the Clare Extension Club, and served as charter president for the Flandreau Jaycettes.
Jean is survived by her children, Nancy Jo (Lowell) Anderson of Ankeny, IA, Gordy R. Anderson of Sioux Falls SD, Karla Rae (Edward) Hofkamp of Rapid City, SD and Eric A. Anderson (fiancé Kimberly Lang) of Sioux Falls SD; grandchildren, Maren Anderson-Lenhart, Marisa Anderson, Charia Anderson, Lindsey (David) Eisenbraun, Alleise Anderson, Luke (Krista) Hofkamp, Leah (Aaron) Mackie, Chad Hofkamp, Megan (Christopher) Beacom and Eric Anderson Jr.; great grandchildren, Cullen, Chloe & Abigail Hofkamp and Aleena Anderson. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, their infant daughter, Cheryl Jeanine, and her parents, Arnold and Gertrude Hoel.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with burial in Union Cemetery, Flandreau. www.skrochfc.com
