Dwayne O. Halse, age 93, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Flandreau, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Sanford Rock Rapids Medical Center.

Dwayne O. Halse was born June 3, 1923 in Watertown , South Dakota, the son of Ogden and Clarice (Kraling) Halse. He attended High School in Waubay and graduated from Florence High School in 1941. He married Mildred McPeek on November 21, 1943 at the Methodist Church in Florence, South Dakota. Dwayne served in the US Navy from January of 1943 to December of 1945 as an aviation metalsmith. Following his discharge, they made their home in Miller, South Dakota from 1946 until 1959 where he was the owner and manager of an auto and farm implement dealership. Dwayne held various positions in the First National Bank System from 1959 until 1969. He was president of the Farmers State Bank in Flandreau, South Dakota until retirement in 1987. He also owned and operated farms in the Miller and Flandreau areas. The couple have made their home in Sioux Falls since 2007. They recently moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Dwayne was always busy in the communities they lived in. He was an active member of various Methodist Churches, Kiwanis Clubs, Civic and Commerce Associations, the Elks, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and VFW. He served as President of the Chamber of Commerce in Miller, South Dakota and as District Supervisor and Soil Conservation Board for 18 years.

Dwayne is survived by his wife, Mildred; children, Mary (Gary) Collins of Missoula, Montana, Susan (Bruce Birch) Halse of Frederick, Maryland, Judy (Ron) Olfert of Pierre, South Dakota and David (Patty) Halse of Rock Rapids, Iowa; a sister-inlaw, Elaine Halse of Watertown, South Dakota; 9 grandchildren, Bradley (Julie) Collins, Ehren (Jennifer) Halse, Anna (Chad) Eirich, Corica Olfert, Abigail (Danny) Asmus, Matthew Halse, Samuel Halse, Sarah Halse, and

Rebecca Halse; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Glenn (Evelyn) Halse and Dennis Halse; and sisters, Esther (Ralph) Syverson and Betty (Earl) Forsberg.

Funeral Service was held March 25, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Burial at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown. The family prefers memorials be directed to the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
