Dorothy Reck

Dorothy Reck, age 87, of Wentworth, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. 

Dorothy Helen Stubbe was born December 10, 1930 on a farm near Ellsworth, MN, the daughter of Jerry & Anna (Werkman) Stubbe.  She graduated Ellsworth High School in 1948 and two years later she married William Reck on October 28, 1950.  They made their home in Sioux Falls and Dorothy began working for Sears & Roebuck.  In 1962, they moved to Brant Lake and remained there until 1977 when they moved to Lyons.  They remained in Lyons until 1992 and moved to Wentworth, which is where she resided until her passing.  She started working as an administrative secretary at the Tri-Valley School District and remained there for 22 years until her retirement in 1992.  Dorothy received an award in 1996 for her years of dedication and hard work.  She received the National Secretary Award. 

Besides working a full-time job, she found time to help her husband raise registered quarter horses and she was very involved with the Lake County Boots & Saddle Club.  Dorothy was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran as a member of the Altar Guild, was a Sunday School teacher, active in LWML and loved gardening, crocheting and reading.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Terry (Deb) Reck of Wentworth; 4 grandchildren, Kory (Melissa) Reck of Wentworth, Kasey (Stacy) Reck of Watertown, SD, Kara (Erik) Krumm & Katie Cacho both of Sioux Falls;

9 great-grandchildren, Kayla (Ashes) Dean of Madison, SD, Lizbeth Reck of Sioux Falls, Tyler & Logan Reck of Wentworth, Kellyn & Kennedy Reck of Watertown, Bristol Krumm of Sioux Falls, Olivia & MaKenzie Cacho of Sioux Falls; 1 great-great-granddaughter, Braeleigh Dean and 3 half-brothers, Jerry, Ronald & Robert Stubbe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill (2001); 3 brothers, Henry, Wayne & Marvin; sister, Shirley Van Meeteren. 

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 21st at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Wentworth with Rev. Adam Welton officiating.
