Donna Hirzel, 76, of Flandreau, South Dakota, formerly of Sioux Falls, passed away unexpectedly at her home on February 8, 2020.   
Donna Bartsch, daughter of Werner and Gertrude (Rutz) Bartsch was born January 15, 1944, at the family farm near Gary, South Dakota.  She was baptized in Gary, South Dakota and later confirmed in Johnson, Minnesota.  The family moved to Johnson, Minnesota where they lived for 21 years.  She graduated from Trinity Lutheran High School in Johnson in 1962.  She attended Nettleton Business School in Sioux Falls.  She also spent 12 years in Eugene, Oregon before settling in Sioux Falls in 1977.  While in Sioux Falls, she worked for Tyco Plastics until her retirement.  She was united in marriage to Earl Hirzel on April 13, 1996, in Sioux Falls.  Donna was a very active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls where she sang in the choir, belonged to the lady’s guild and helped in many other roles.  She moved to Flandreau to be closer to family and transferred her membership to Trinity Lutheran Church.  In her spare time, she enjoyed going camping, fishing, and tending to her flowers and yard.
Left to cherish her memory are her son: Michael Yeakey of Flandreau; sister: Arleen (Ron) Hargan of Sioux Falls, SD; brother: Orlin Bartsch of Oregon; four step children: Tammy (Jim) Feller of Burnsville, MN, Teresa (Randy) Acorn of Owatona, MN, Tracy Hirzel of Burnsville, MN, and Tina (Scott) Mallard of Marion, SD; and eight step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; brother, Arvid (Sandy) Bartsch; and sister-in-law, Roxie Bartsch.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkton, SD.  Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 23, with a 4:45 p.m., Prayer Service, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls.
