CLEAR LAKE – Howard totaled 180.5 points to edge McCook Central/Montrose (175) for the team title at the Big East/Lake Central Conference Wrestling Meet on Saturday.

Clark/Willow Lake (152), Beresford/Alcester-Hudson (140.5) and Elk Point-Jefferson (92.5) rounded out the top five.

Flandreau finished 10th with 29.5 points.

Caleb Dietrich placed second at 106 pounds to pace the Fliers.

Following a bye, he pinned MCM’s Lane Huls in 56 seconds in the quarterfinals and edged EPJ’s Lucas Hueser 6-5 in the semifinals.

Howard’s Lane Miller pinned Dietrich in 56 seconds in the title bout.

Hunter Witte (113 pounds) and Preston Keith (160) both went 1-2. Tanner Christenson (120 pounds), Brendan Ten Eyck (152), Kolby Peters (170) and Chase Reed (220) each finished 0-2.

We are quickly approaching the tail end of our season and our guys are continually improving despite battling the flu bug as well the last couple of weeks,” said Coach Travis Ahrens.

“Caleb Dietrich had a break out performance at the Big East/Lake Central Conference tournament placing second. He wrestled and won some important matches Saturday that should help him at the Region tournament in a couple weeks. That's are focus right now for our guys, getting everybody healthy and ready so that we are at our best at the end of the year.

FLANDREAU – Flandreau went 2-1 at a home wrestling quadrangular on Tuesday, beating Deuel 36-33 and Hamlin 60-6 and dropping a 74-6 matchup with Howard.

Michael Witte pinned Logan Kreger in 1:03 at 145 pounds and Brendan Ten Eyck won by fall in 27 seconds versus Isaac VanWormer in the 152-pound matchup to lead the Fliers.

Caleb Dietrich (106 pounds), Preston Keith (160), Kolby Peters (170) and Chase Reed (220) each won by forfeit.

Flandreau 60, Hamlin 6

Dietrich (106 pounds), Hunter Witte (113), Owen Peters (120), Austin Kulm (138), Toby Taylor (145), Michael Witte (152), Ten Eyck (160), Keith (170), Kolby Peters (182) and Reed (220) each won by forfeit as there was only one contested match in the dual.

Howard 60, Flandreau 6

Michael Witte pinned Gabriel Turpin in 35 seconds for the Fliers.

Flandreau plays host to Kingsbury County, Garretson and Tri-Valley in a quadrangular Friday at 5 p.m.
