Dallas D. Petersen

Dallas Dale Petersen, age 86, of Flandreau, SD, passed at Riverview Healthcare Center in Flandreau on Monday, March 27, 2023.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Skroch Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Union Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Friday with a prayer service at 7 P.M. all at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
Dallas was born on August 17, 1936, to William and Iula (Wilson) Petersen in Platte, SD.  He attended country school until the third grade, and then moved to Platte where he graduated from High School.  During high school, Dallas was very involved with sports and band.  On October 14, 1954, Dallas entered the United States Marine Corp where he faithfully served until 1957.
After his honorable discharge, Dallas married Nelda Dimick.  Together, they raised Scott and Shawn in Mitchell, SD. While in Mitchell, Dallas worked for Western Chevrolet as a bookkeeper.  In 1984, Dallas moved to Flandreau, SD, where he began his employment with Viking Vans.  During this time, Dallas met his soulmate, Gertrude Duffert.
After his time with Viking Vans, Dallas worked for the Flandreau Golf Course and the City of Flandreau as a groundskeeper.  Dallas will be remembered for his artistic abilities, his love of golf, and especially his love for being outside with nature and love of animals.
Survivors include his soulmate, Gertrude Duffert; children; Scott (Angie) Petersen and Shawn (Joy) Petersen; bonus children, John (Cindy) Duffert, Karen (Dave) Viste, and Deb (Darren) Feenstra; brother, Leland Petersen, and sister Dorothy Paulson; grandchildren: Jeremy (Andi) Petersen, Ryan (Gretchen) Petersen, Taryn (Freddie) Flanagan, Amanda Hiles, Kogan and Braydn Petersen, Bob, Heather and Michael Viste, Cole and Dalton Feenstra, Kylee (Tyler) Wickstrom; Jeremie (Marcia) Houtman, and Stefanie (Darrel) Bonrud; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Molly (Edward) Schelske, Wilma (Orvil) Olson, Clifford (Ione) Petersen, and Norbert (Judy) Petersen; brother-in-law, Nels Paulson; sister-in-law, Barbara Petersen; two infant brothers, Robert and Irving; and grandson, Tony Zabriskie.
